The IPKat Policies

Guest submissions policy

The IPKat welcomes submissions of original, previously unpublished content and content in respect of which the author has not had direct/indirect involvement (e.g. a certain case/litigation; note this doesn't apply to studies and reports), for inclusion on the blog as guest posts. If accepted, they will be edited and posted by a member of the blog team. Submission does not guarantee publication. Articles prepared using generative AI tools will not be accepted.

Pieces for submission should generally be 500-1000 words in length on a current or otherwise newsworthy topic related to intellectual property that will be of interest to our readers and not already covered (at least in a similar manner) on the blog. For example, the second report of a court decision would only be accepted if it presented an analysis significantly different from the one already published. The decision as to whether to publish will additionally depend on the quality of the content and the style.

Please email submissions to the IPKat at theipkat@gmail.com. If you are in any doubt about the suitability of the topic that you wish to cover or your intended treatment, please feel free to email the IPKat in advance with an outline.

Comments Policy

All comments must be moderated by a member of the IPKat team before they appear on the blog. Comments will not be allowed if they contravene the IPKat policy that readers' comments should not be obscene or defamatory; they should not consist of ad hominem attacks on members of the blog team or other comment-posters, and they should make a constructive contribution to the discussion of the post on which they purport to comment.

It is also the IPKat policy that comments should not be made completely anonymously, and users should use a consistent name or pseudonym (which should not itself be defamatory or obscene, or that of another real person), either in the "identity" field or at the beginning of the comment. Current practice is to, however, allow a limited number of comments that contravene this policy, provided that the comment has a high degree of relevance and the comment chain does not become too difficult to follow.

Want to complain about a comment?

If you have posted a comment to one of our posts and it hasn't appeared, it may be because it does not match our criteria for moderation as set out above.

If you feel that your comment should not have been rejected, please email the IPKat at theipkat@gmail.com. It may be that your comment has been misdirected into the Blogger software's Spam file.
